Mission and History
The National Association of Mediators was registered in 2005 as a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to promote a unified policy for the favourable development of mediation in the Republic of Bulgaria. The organisation works for the popularisation of mediation and effective implementation of this out-of-court method of resolving disputes in various areas of life.
During the fifteen years of its existence, the National Association of Mediators supports the joint efforts of affiliated societies and legal entities working in the field of mediation and collaborates with state and other bodies and institutions. Cooperation with national organisations of mediators from different countries and international organisations on mediation matters is intensive.
The organisation’s history records many members of NAM in working groups at the Ministry of Justice and other state bodies and institutions on mediation issues.
Among the founders of the National Association of Mediators are the people who contributed to drafting the Mediation Act promulgated in State Gazette No. 110 of December 17, 2004, with the latest amendments published in State Gazette No. 17 of February 26, 2019. The members of NAM develop opinions and bills on amendments and supplements to the Bulgarian legislation related to mediation.
The corporate and individual members of NAM are known for their numerous initiatives in the field of mediation. They are the authors of books and other printed and electronic materials on the subject.
NAM works to support and protect the interests of its members by striving to aid the processes that contribute to the transformation of mediation into an established profession.
